Love Me With All Your Heart by Randy De Piero
Love me with all your heart and soul and mind
But I can't see You
Not like the tide, a warm smile, a trillium in May, a canyon
Love me with all your heart and soul and mind
But I can't hear You
Not like my wife's laugh, the family gathering at a table, a distant train, a stream
Love me with all your heart and soul and mind
But I can't feel You
Not like the warmth of fire, the comfort of a pillow, the wind on a bike ride, my wife's small hand
Love me with all your heart and soul and mind
But I can't smell You
Not like the forest after rain, the waft of a meal when in from the cold, a fall morning, coffee
Love me with all your heart and soul and mind
But I don't know You. Not like all these things.
Yet you're there aren't you.... that's what you tell me.... in all things... always
But why can't I be sure. Why can't I...
To really see, hear, feel, smell and know
So I can love You, just like You ask
Help me to do that...
I'm a 62 year old quasi retired husband and father. My life has been good. Real good. And yet my pursuit of faith, strength and relationship with this God who loves me supremely is a life long journey of trying to know. That's really what's behind this poem.
