24 life lessons I've learnt in 24 years

Today, it's my 24th on the 24th, so I'm sharing 24 lessons I've learnt in this life.

Faith

Life is an extraordinary adventure filled with many highs and lows. Through it all we ought to keep growing. In every season, state and place, learn whilst you are there -

Bask in the experiences,

Soak in the lessons,

Let life fill you with the fruits of your labour.

Live.

In living, we learn every day. And so, without further ado, here are -

24 life lessons I've learnt (and am still learning) in my 24 years of living.

1. Peace is priority

When peace is disturbed, it's only a matter of time before everything else start to crumble. I've learnt to protect my peace at all costs. To reevaluate and get rid things which bring conflict. Internal or external. Not everything deserves a space in my heart and as the good Word says: The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. Hold. Your peace.

2. Joy makes you attractive

I'm a big believer that people are most beautiful when they radiate joy. There's just a different type of glow when your heart is pure and you're happy from the core. Bitterness, envy, rage. It's a big no from me. Cultivating joy has a knock-on effect on your outward appearance. As they say, you're never fully dressed without a smile.

3. Enjoyment is essential

If my Holy Bible says there is nothing better than for a man to eat, drink and enjoy, then who am I to disagree? Work hard? Yes. Enjoy? YES.

4. Forgiveness keeps you free

Forgive, not because they always deserve it, but because it sets your heart free from the pain of resentment. You owe it to yourself to move on and move forward beyond your pain.

5. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life

Getting to know Jesus is without a doubt the greatest thing I've done in this life. There's nothing like the sweet love of Christ to keep you going. It's not easy and many things will come to test your faith. But He said what He said:

6. God is above all things. ALL things

When times get hard I remember that God is in control. My worries are not His worries because He's already got it covered. This year especially, I've learnt the importance of trusting God even when things aren't working out. So, be still and know that He is God.

7. The process makes you beautiful

Yes, no one is perfect but the journey towards becoming a better version of yourself is what makes the difference. Your unique process makes you beautiful. The silent battles you've fought. The obstacles you've overcome. The bad habits you've outgrown. It all adds up as you become more beautiful each day.

8. You are responsible for your response and actions

You can't dictate how someone will treat you, but you can dictate your response. Situations will fall out of your hands, but it's your responsibility to exude quality in your response.

9. Your voice is valid

Speak up when it matters. Express yourself because your words count. Your voice is your power. Even if it shakes whilst you speak. Please use your voice.

10. You need vision to keep going

Having set goals and ambition will always drive you forward. Without goals in life, you can easily become discouraged and lose your sense of purpose. Having vision keeps you focused, determined and encouraged to desire more out of life.

11. The art of simplicity

Simple does not mean plain. Or boring. Relieve some stress and keep it simple. Because this life we can't kill ourselves o.

12. Rest is important

Taking time out just to be still and rest is so important. Though it's valuable to work hard, lack of physical and mental rest will catch up with you. Sometimes taking the nap will be more productive in the long run. It's all about balance.

13. Relationships are the most valuable investment

It's reiterated to invest wisely in properties, businesses, stocks and all sorts. But building a strong network of genuine, close and supportive relationships is the biggest flex. What's wealth when there's not a soul for you to enjoy it with?

14. Patience and faith will open doors

Have faith to believe your goals are attainable, and patience until you see them manifest.

15. God's love is the foundation

God is love.

If God's love isn't in it, then I don't need it.

16. Let your actions speak for you

Less talking, more walking. Walk in the values and traits that you speak of. Walk in discipline, in love, in forgiveness. Walk in your purpose and get things done.

17. This too shall pass

In this life, I've learnt that things always get better. Tough times come, but they won't always last. Likewise, every good day ends. You've just got to be prepared for each side of the coin.

18. Be consistent, even in the little things

It's better to start a little thing with consistency, and see it through until the end. Than to start a big thing, only to quit half way through. Being consistent with the little habits will allow you to be consistent with greater.

19. Compassion towards others is key

You may never know what someone else is currently going or has been through. Give people compassion, kindness and the benefit of the doubt.

20. A 'no' is not always negative

Saying 'no' and leaving it at that is a skill I desire to master. I've learnt it's better to say no with a genuine heart, than yes with resentment (because you wish you'd said no).

21. Comparison is deceitful

Comparison is deceitful because as I said above, you never know what someone else is going through behind closed doors. And you can’t compare your truth to a facade your mind has built of them. The life that appears perfect may not even be real at all. Meanwhile your blessings are just around the corner and are exactly what you need.

22. Pay off your credit card bill in full

Paying with interest just seems like a scam to me so I'd rather not.

23. Complaining magnifies your problems

I'm learning to complain less whilst finding more reasons to be grateful instead. Work is hard, but there's a blessing in having a source of income. Yes things are hard, but if you'd only look to find the blessings hidden within them.

24. Life is precious

And you only get to do it once. I've learnt that tomorrow is not promised, so use each moment wisely. Nurture your relationships, work towards your goals, give thanks through the trials and enjoy the ride.

As for me, I'm grateful to have seen 24 years and I look forward to learning more in this life.
