Words of Faith flowers

Hopefully, this Q&A style post answers all of the questions you guys may have! Read on to find out more about me, my book and other fun writing related things.

What is Words of Faith?

‘Words of Faith: A collection of poems and verses written to challenge growth’ is a poetry collection written by Faith. The poetry book contains many poems on love, life, faith, passion and purpose.

The book was written to inspire and challenge growth within a reader and so contains many motivational and encouraging words.

The blurb reads:

In her first release, Faith takes readers on a profound poetic journey with the intent to challenge growth.

Through simple, yet skillful use of language and imagery, the reader is stimulated, intrigued and moved.

‘Don't be afraid to grow,’ she says, ‘to take the risks in life that will propel you into your purpose. Be refined, be challenged and above all, seek to grow.’

Will you let these words of Faith nurture your soul?

When was Words of Faith first published?

Words of Faith was first self-published, through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, on Friday 2nd August 2019.

What was your inspiration behind Words of Faith?

Truthfully, many things inspired me for this poetry collection. Yet I think the most significant influence and inspiration behind this book was my life experiences and my relationship with God. In this, I found that my dream of publishing a book was nurtured and refined by God.

At times I would read the Bible and a specific verse would stick out to me and inspire a new poem that I would write for Words of Faith. Other times, reflecting on certain situations I have faced gave me the words for a new poem.

Is Words of Faith only for Christians?

No, Words of Faith can be read and enjoyed by anyone regardless of their religion.

I am a Christian and so naturally some of my poems are expressed from that basis. However, the poetry book also contains many poems which are not faith or religion based at all.

It is said of the poems that “they also have a kind of minimalist quality to them that makes each poem work well as a kind of mine for aphorisms... What makes them particularly effective is that they are obviously heartfelt and deeply personal, but at the same time universally accessible.”

My writing is accessible so I believe everyone can gain something from reading this book - even if that is just a thought or a new idea.

How long did it take you to write Words of Faith?

I struggle to answer this question because some of the poems in the collection were written at least two years before they were published. Whilst other poems were written a week before the book was published.

To give a time frame, the poems were written between 2016-2019.

When I was writing the older poems, I had no idea that they would be published in a poetry collection called Words of Faith. At the same time, writing the newer poems didn’t take me years to complete either.

How did you publish your own poetry book?

I self-published Words of Faith through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing.

This process took me about five to six months and I have written two detailed guides on ‘how to publish your own poetry book’ and ‘how to use Amazon to publish a book’ if you are interested in finding out more.

How did you find time to work on Words of Faith?

Initially I was out of work for about a month. During this time, I invested days consistently into writing and other publishing related tasks that I needed to do for Words of Faith.

Having this time off work was essential for me because it allowed me to focus and propel my vision with more time on my hands. Once I started working again, I usually spent my weekends and around one evening a week working on this project.

How do you promote and sell your book?

I promote Words of Faith through the use of my social media accounts. Mainly this is through Instagram where I share images, videos and any updates on what is happening. You can find and follow me on social media through the links at the bottom of this post.

I also sell my book at events and in the future would love to go on tour with it. I’m always looking for new and creative ways to market myself and my book so I happily welcome all marketing tips and advice!

How did you design your book cover?

My Words of Faith book cover was designed by a freelance artist on Fiverr called Priticreative.

How and when did you start writing poetry?

I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember. I began to express through poetry when I was in my second year of university. As an English undergraduate I was always surrounded by different forms of literature so it’s not surprising that I feel into poetry. I admired the simplicity and elegance of poetry so I started to practice it more frequently. I also really like Shakespeare.

What else do you write?

Creatively I love to write screenplays and radio plays. One day I also aspire to write a collection of short stories and novels. We’ll see...

Professionally I write copy for website, digital and print communications. I write blog posts, articles, case studies, press releases and essays.

I enjoy sharing thoughts and ideas that I believe can add value to the reader. The blog gives me a voice on a range of topics and also points back to the initial vision.

What more can we expect from Words of Faith?

So much more! Words of Faith is still in its infancy stage so I can’t wait to continue building and sharing with you all. I’m interested in creating an audiobook for the collection as well as visual short films for a number of the poems. In future I’d like to branch out to theatre as well which would include staged performances from the poetry collection.

I also see myself taking this book on tour... Some day. One day. It’ll happen.
