Happy International Women's Day!
Woman -
Delicate, yet filled with strength.
Endowed with elegance,
Pure bliss and radiance.
What it is to be
A woman.
At Words of Faith, I'm all about the love, light and poetry. Especially for my fellow sisters. In a world that demands so much from women, it's only right that we celebrate and empower ourselves consistently! Here's how we're doing it this International Women's Day.
I couldn't start this post without one of the most inspiring poems on womanhood - Phenomenal Woman.
Doesn't this just make you proud to be a woman? Claim it my sisters, you are phenomenal.
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
’Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
I hope you find you. I hope you find love. I see all the armour you wear. I see all the jewels and gems of wisdom you share. It’s okay to shine. It's okay to shine.
She thrives, she sparks. She glows, she grows.
You are a vessel. His very own. Masterpiece. Piece of art.
Run your fingers through your afro. That tree that this whole culture breathes from. Blue magic drops like diamonds, glistening, adorning your skull. Liquid gold dances down your neck.
Your smile illuminates not only your face, but the entire room.
Sing, into your breaking. Sing, into your shaking.
All in all, a worthy child of God. What's a woman worth then? No less than, his life, his death, his resurrection.
We must unlearn the deep misunderstandings that composed themselves as empowerment. As freedom. Liberation has never come by way of unbelief.
Ladies, I hope you've enjoyed watching these inspiring videos! Share with a sister to spread the love and feel free to comment even more of your favourite empowering poems.
